Once youโ€™ve learnt a bit about what makes Inverness such an important part of Scottish history, enjoy the panoramic views from atop the stunningly beautiful Inverness Castle. The viewpoint offers beautiful 360ยฐ views of the Highland capital as far as the eye can see.

Morning: Ness Islands

Now that you have found your bearings and are properly acquainted with our enchanting city, make your way along the banks of the River Ness to the breathtaking Ness Islands. A beautiful natural park, this group of islands in the middle of the river will make you forget you are in the middle of a city! The islands are connected by a series of Victorian suspension bridges. Making exploring the beautiful park while enjoying a leisurely stroll a breeze. If you have young ones with you, be sure to stop in at Whin Park and the Ness Islands Railway.

Lunch: Inverness eateries

What to do in Inverness for lunch? By now youโ€™ve probably worked up quite an appetite. Make your way back to the Kingsmills Hotel for a bite to eat from our scrumptious lunch menu, or enjoy one of the many yummy eateries around Ness Islands.

Afternoon: Loch Ness Boat Cruise

Once youโ€™ve filled up with some traditional Scottish fayre, make your way to Jacobite Cruises. (Theyโ€™re just on the other side of the Inverness Botanic Gardens and a stoneโ€™s throw away from the Ness Islands). There are a number of wonderful cruises to choose from, but weโ€™d recommend a cruise that visits the stunning ruins of Urquhart Castle. Booking in advance is required for this leg of the itinerary.

Afternoon: Inverness Cathedral

Make your way to back to the centre of the city and pay a visit to the UKโ€™s earliest Post-Reformation cathedral on the way, St Andrewโ€™s Cathedral. While not exactly old by Scottish standards (the cathedral was built in 1869), it is still worth a visit for its beautiful stained glass windows and striking architecture.

Afternoon: Victorian Market

Whatโ€™s a trip to the Scottish Highlands without a few keepsakes? With a range of small quirky shops you wonโ€™t find on the High Street, the Victorian Market is the perfect stop for souvenir shopping. Set in the heart of Invernessโ€™ Old Town, this unique shopping mall dates back to the 1890s!
