The Ness Islands provide a peaceful haven, right in the middle of Inverness! Located on the River Ness, they are easy to access via Victorian footbridges over the river. Step across and be transported into a quiet, picturesque spot, teaming with local wildlife. This walk is suitable for all ages and the paths are wide enough for buggies and wheelchairs to access. A great wildlife walk for all the family!

A Scenic Walk

Although the Ness Islands are right here in Inverness, they couldn’t seem further away. As soon as you arrive, the hustle and bustle of the city melts away. The islands are linked by bridges, which take you on a scenic woodland walk. Allow at least an hour to enjoy it, but the beauty is, this walk can be as long or short as you like! As the bridges can provide a shortcut back to the start.

Scottish Wildlife

Bring your binoculars and a camera, and be on the look out for local wildlife on your walk. Such as dippers, osprey, salmon, otters, seals, bats, and deer. Along with a collection of magnificent plants and trees.

Whin Park & Ness Islands Railway

Just a short walk from the islands, is Whin Park. The park has several adventure play zones, a boating pond with ducks, and in the winter it is home to the festive Winter Wonderland.

The park is also home to the Ness Islands Railway. Great fun for the kids and grown-ups alike. Open during the summer months, from around April to October. The exciting miniature railway journey is over half a mile long, and is the ideal way to end a visit to the Ness Islands.
