Inverness on foot
Inverness city centre is compact and there are lots of things to see within walking distance. From your accommodation at the Kingsmills Hotel, it’s around a 20-minute walk into town. Top attractions in and around the city include Inverness Castle (reopening in 2025), Inverness Cathedral, Inverness Museum and Art Gallery, Eden Court Theatre and Uile-Bheist Brewery and Distillery. The vibrant city has plenty of shops, bars and restaurants and music venues. There are also peaceful places to walk and explore, such as Inverness Botanic Gardens and the Ness Islands.
Public transport
There’s a bus stop near the Kingmills hotel, so you can get into the city centre quickly. Buses from the centre connect you to other local towns and villages in the Scottish Highlands. Trains connect you to larger towns and cities. So you can enjoy a great number of day trips. Download the Traveline Scotland app for help getting around by public transport.
Taxis and transfers
If there’s somewhere you’d like to go that’s not directly accessible by public transport, there are a few local taxi companies that can help. Those staying at the Kingsmills also have the option to book hotel transfers from the airport or station, straight to our front door and vice-versa. This service must be booked in advance and there is an additional charge.
Day tours
Day tours and excursions are a great way to see more during your visit. Whether that’s an open-top bus sightseeing tour around the city centre, or a trip to another part of the Scottish Highlands. We work with WOW Scotland Tours to bring you a range of one-day Highlands and islands tours, all of which pick up and drop off at the hotel. Stunning destinations include the Isle of Skye, Glenfinnan and Glen Coe. Some of the tours are available on a private basis only, while others may run with regularly scheduled departures.
