Uile-bheist Distillery & Brewery

Uile-bheist Distillery & Brewery

This modern distillery and brewery on the banks of the River Ness opened in 2023. The name Uile-bheist (pronounced “ewl-uh-vehst”) means monster, and is inspired by the local legend of the Loch Ness Monster. It’s an interesting distillery to visit, to see the contrast between this and the older Scottish distilleries that have been around for centuries. As the first new distillery to be built in Inverness for 130 years, it uses advanced equipment and innovative methods, whilst following the traditional principles of Scotch whisky production. It also has a brewery, which produces a range of small-batch craft beers.

Whisky and beer tours

Uile-bheist offers a choice of tours at its visitor centre. On a tour of the brewery and distillery, you’ll see how they produce whisky and beer on-site, then learn more about the long history of production in the Inverness area. You’ll also get to explore some of the myths and legends that have inspired Uile-bheist’s products and artwork. And you’ll gain an insight into their sustainability initiatives. In addition, you can enjoy tastings, experiences and events that delve deeper into the world of Scottish beer and whisky.

Sustainability

Sustainability is a big part of the Uile-bheist ethos. Using innovative new techniques, they strive to be as low-carbon as possible. Preserving our natural resources for future generations.
