Charity and Fundraising Work

Charity & Fundraising Work

Last updated: May 2025

At the Kingsmills Hotel, we have a deep commitment to charity and fundraising work. We believe in giving back to the community and creating lasting change, as part of our social sustainability commitments. Here’s an update on some of our proudest fundraising achievements…

Highland Hospice

We’ve raised £527,000 to date for Highland Hospice. This began as part of the Project Build Appeal for their centre on the riverside, where we pledged to raise £100,000. Initially, we did this through a number of events as well as offering an opt-in donation of £1 to all guests on check-in and check-out. Now, we primarily raise funds by putting on large-scale events, and taking part in some smaller fundraising activities too.

We hold an annual golf day. In 2024, this was held at Royal Dornoch Championship Course, adding £60,000 to the total. In 2025, we’re heading to Moray Golf Club. Each golf day returns to Kingsmills for prize giving and entertainment.

In 2024, we put on our first Sunflower Ball. Impressionist Rory Bremner joined us as well as a lineup of entertainment. This raised £80,000! We also held a Chipping Challenge at the Kingsmills Open on the neighbouring golf club adding £461 to the pot and our team took part in the Highland Hospice Rowing Regatta on the Caledonian Canal, raising over £3,000 from fundraising and sponsorship.

Mikeysline

Since 2022, we’ve supported the mental health charity Mikeysline. We’ve raised £236,000 for them across a number of events, which includes an annual golf day in spring. In 2024 this was held at Nairn Golf Club and this year at Royal Dornoch.

We also host an annual Royal Ascot Ladies Day in the Kingsmills Gardens with fundraising, entertainment and a packed itinerary of fantastic food and drink. This is held in June and last year raised over £40,000.

In addition, we hold smaller fundraisers for this charity including a Kingsmills Better Ball Chipping Challenge & Bar at Fortrose & Rosemarkie Golf Club in 2024 which raised £890.

In addition to the totals counted above which are from events hosted by Kingsmills, Mikeysline also hosts its own events at the hotel which we are delighted to support, including their annual Mikeysline Burns Supper.

SNAP (Special Needs Action Project)

In 2023, our CEO Tony Story learned of funding cuts which impacted local children’s charity SNAP. As a result, we set about creating an event which raises funds to support them. Stars in Their Eyes was born and after three years has now raised over £100,000 and hugely grown awareness locally of this truly special charity.

Fortrose & Rosemarkie Golf Club

We care passionately about the local community and when we heard that Fortrose & Rosemarkie Golf Club had suffered from significant erosion following storms, we just had to give back. This is a club that has a huge heart, has supported so many of our charity efforts and supports young people in the local area; this was our time to give back to them. In 2024, we held a golf day and fundraiser which included golf on their spectacular course and a prizegiving and entertainment at the hotel. We raised £24,000 and we’re in talks with them about supporting the construction of further defences to save this historic club from future erosion.

Other fundraising activities

Outside of these core charities, we also support smaller fundraising activities. Each year our team participates in Sneckie Soccer Fives in aid of CHAS (Children’s Hospices Across Scotland). We support Maggie’s Highlands by entering teams into their Run the Runway events. We’re supporting Held In Our Hearts to put on a new fundraiser in the hotel. We’re also working with Barnardo’s to bring an afternoon tea event to life and the Oxygen Works to host their first major fundraiser in the hotel!
