Free museums and attractions

There are several free visitor attractions in Inverness. Such as the Inverness Museum and Art Gallery, a fabulous museum, which gives a glimpse into the history of the Highlands. Explore the geology and people of this spectacular region, see artefacts from the ancient Picts and learn about the Jacobites and the bloody Battle of Culloden. There are engaging talks, displays and art exhibitions and so much to see and discover. If you love nature, the Inverness Botanic Gardens is the perfect place to escape the hustle and bustle of the city. It has formal gardens, a secret garden, tropical house and cactus house, plus a café and shop. Those interested in history shouldn’t miss a visit to the Clava Cairns, a 4000-year-old Iron Age burial ground near Inverness. Here you can view a range of prehistoric monuments and the ruins of a medieval chapel.
