Eco-friendly attractions in and around Inverness

3 eco-friendly attractions and tours

Here at The Kingsmills Hotel in Inverness, we take our responsibility towards the environment seriously. Our environmental and sustainability pledge sets out our goals and promises, so that we are continuously working towards a greener future. Today, we’d like to shine a light on some fellow tourism businesses in the Inverness area that also care about the impact they have on the environment. Here are three eco-friendly attractions and tours that we think you should explore on your next stay with us…

Loch Ness by Jacobite

Explore the vast and magnificent Loch Ness with Loch Ness by Jacobite cruises. Getting out on the water is one of the best ways to see Loch Ness. You can hunt for the notorious Nessie, while learning about the history and legends of this world-famous loch.

Amongst its many environmental policies, the cruise operator promises to minimise water and energy use, promote energy saving and recycling practices, and use local and Fair Trade products where possible. They also look after the local wildlife, providing nesting boxes and feeding stations and planting hedges and plants for birds and insects. In 2018, they introduced the Jacobite Maverick to their fleet. This 200-seat catamaran has an eco-friendly design for lower fuel consumption and water waste. Read the full environment statement.

Culloden Battlefield & Visitor Centre

Stand on the battlefield where the Battle of Culloden took place in 1746, and learn about the tragic history of the battle in the Visitor Centre. The centre features interactive displays and exhibits artefacts from both sides of the battle, bringing the past to life.

Culloden Battlefield has been awarded a gold Green Tourism Award for its efforts in green tourism and sustainability. One of the most interesting ways they’ve found to be greener is by deploying a herd of animals to graze on the moorland, rather than using farm machinery. This is a much more natural way to protect and conserve the land and is in keeping with the history and heritage of the site. Find out more about Culloden’s “conservation coos”.

WOW Scotland Tours

WOW Scotland runs a range of one-day Highland and island tours. All of which pick up and drop off here at The Kingsmills Hotel. We have worked with this small, local tour operator for over a decade and you can easily book one of their tours when arranging a stay with us.

The company has a strong green ethos. The company has planted over 500 trees since 2019 to offset carbon emissions, and supports the conservation charity Trees for Life. They work with local suppliers and encourage recycling wherever possible. Drivers, guides and the office team regularly pick up litter. They have also invested in new, greener vehicles which comply with the highest Euro 6 emissions standards. Read their environmental policy for more information.

Enjoy visiting these green attractions and tours on your next stay with us at the Kingsmills Hotel. Find out more about sustainable and responsible travel and how to have an eco-friendly holiday in our other blogs.
