Nairn's Wide, Sandy Beaches

Nairn Beach

Visit Nairn beach and town

If you’re looking for family days out near Inverness, Nairn is a great choice. This seaside town is easy to reach from Inverness by car or train in under half an hour. Nairn Central Beach is a wide and sandy stretch, with a promenade, offeringย lovely views over the Moray Firth. It is the perfect place to visit on a sunny day to play, walk and relax.

Central Beach

Central Beach is one of the main attractions in Nairn. It is the closest beach to the town centre and harbour, where you can enjoy coastal walks in both directions. The sand is soft and white, backed by low dunes. And the views out across the Moray Firth are spectacular. This lovely beach is popular for wild swimming and water sports. In the summer, many families come here to play on the sands. There is also plenty of Scottish wildlife to spot.

In addition, Nairn has two other beaches, which are further out and more remote. East Beach and Whiteness Beach (known as the Secret Beach).

Wildlife spotting

The Moray Firth is home to around 200 bottlenose dolphins. From the coast, it is possible to spot them leaping from the water. You might also see seals, porpoises and whales. Book a cruise with Nairn Boat Trips for an even closer look!

Head to nearby Culbin Sands Nature Reserve to see a wide variety of seabirds and other wildlife. Its constantly shifting sand dunes, saltmarsh and mudflats provide unique habitats. Providing a home to rare species, such as the dingy skipper butterfly.

Nairn town

Along with beautiful beaches and abundant wildlife, Nairn is known for its two championship golf courses at Nairn Golf Club and Nairn Dunbar Golf Club. There is also a theatre, museum, arts centre and plenty of shops, cafes, bars and restaurants. Making this a great wee town to visit for all the family.
