The Adams Room for small intimate weddings

Adams Room

Intimate Wedding Venue Inverness

The Adams Room at Kingsmills Hotel is one of the most distinctive, intimate wedding venues in Inverness, Scotland. Seating up to 30 guests for a ceremony or 22 for a wedding breakfast, the ceremony, accommodation, dining, and spa are all on-site. Because everything is in one place, your wedding becomes a proper weekend rather than a single event.

So, if you’re looking for a small and intimate wedding venue where every detail is taken care of, get in touch with our wedding team.

A relaxed, laid-back atmosphere

Small weddings should never be a compromise. The Adams Room suits people who want a day that feels personal, and our wedding planners work with you from the start to make exactly that happen. There’s no pressure to follow a script or a standard package. Don’t want matching stationery? Fine. Would you rather a signature cocktail than a glass of bubbly? Excellent. The best thing about your wedding is that you’re marrying the love of your life, so the details are entirely up to you.

Kingsmills Hotel holds a licence for civil, humanist, and religious ceremonies, too. This means you can legally marry in the Adams Room without a separate venue. Before the ceremony, couples can also choose to hold an outdoor moment anywhere within the hotel’s four-acre grounds. The grounds are beautifully maintained and give a peaceful, country-like feel. This is despite the Kingsmills Hotel being just a short walk from Inverness city centre.

A small and intimate wedding venue like no other

Because the Adams Room is compact by design, it creates an atmosphere that larger wedding venues can’t replicate. Everyone is close, the conversation flows naturally, and the room fills with warmth rather than echoing with empty space. For couples who want their guests to feel present, this is the place. It’s also worth noting that a smaller guest list gives you more freedom with your budget. This allows you to invest in the details that really matter to you.

Your guests can stay in our range of wedding accommodation, too. Options include Classic Rooms to the more secluded Cocoon and Retreat Rooms, and many more.

Historic features

The Adams Room sits within the oldest part of the Kingsmills Hotel building. In fact, it was constructed in the late 18th century as a grand private residence for merchant and Provost William Inglis. As one of the oldest rooms in the hotel, it retains its original stucco ceiling and baroque fireplace.

Together, they create a setting that feels warm and genuinely special without needing a great deal of additional dressing. And because the architecture does so much of the work, the room photographs beautifully in every season. So, your wedding will look spectacular, whether summer, winter, spring, or autumn.

Robert Burns and the Kingsmills connection

The Kingsmills Hotel has a verified historical connection to Robert Burns, Scotland’s national poet. On 4th September 1787, Burns visited Provost William Inglis for supper at this very building during his Highland tour. Written correspondence between the two men confirms both the visit and Burns’s warm compliments for the hospitality he received. Today, his portrait hangs in the hotel, and a plaque commemorates the occasion.

Burns wrote more than 550 poems and songs during his lifetime, including some of the most celebrated love poetry in the Scottish literary tradition. It is rather fitting, then, that his former haunt now hosts some of Inverness’s most intimate wedding ceremonies. You can read more on our history of Kingsmills Hotel blog.

A uniquely romantic setting for an intimate wedding

Choosing a small, intimate wedding venue within a four-star hotel means the ceremony, the wedding breakfast, and the accommodation are all on site. So, there’s no need to coordinate between multiple suppliers or return to reality too quickly.

And after the wedding breakfast, guests can unwind at the Kingsclub Spa with a range of spa treatments. These include everything from deep-tissue massages to glow-boosting facials. Alternatively, you can head to the hotel’s Whisky Bar for a curated selection of Highland malts and an immersive whisky flight experience.

Make a weekend of it

For something a little different, the morning after, afternoon tea in the Conservatory Restaurant is a firm favourite with wedding parties. It’s also a lovely way to gather everyone before the journey home. The hotel’s leisure club includes a 12-metre heated indoor swimming pool, hot tub, steam room, and gym. All of which is available to hotel guests throughout their stay.

Whether guests want to shake off the previous evening or simply enjoy a quiet swim before checkout, the facilities are right there. It’s exactly what sets Kingsmills apart from standalone wedding reception venues in Inverness. And it’s something guests consistently mention long after the day itself.

Why couples choose wedding venues in Inverness, Scotland

Choosing wedding venues in Inverness, Scotland, means choosing one of the most stunning wedding destinations in the UK. The Kingsmills Hotel sits close to Loch Ness, the Moray Firth, and the Caledonian Canal, and the Scottish Highlands provide a backdrop that no venue dressing can replicate.

For guests travelling from further afield, Inverness Airport offers direct flights from several UK cities. This makes the hotel genuinely easy to reach. According to VisitScotland, Inverness is consistently one of Scotland’s most popular wedding destinations. And among those who wed here, it’s valued for its accessibility, scenery, and range of venues.

And beyond the Kingsmills Hotel grounds, the recently opened Inverness Castle Experience and world-famous distilleries, including Tomatin and Glenmorangie, are all within easy reach. So, for out-of-town guests, a stay here feels like a proper Highland adventure, and that makes the entire occasion feel like far more than a single day.
