Glenmorangie Distillery Whisky Tours
Glenmorangie Distillery
Glenmorangie is perhaps one of the more famous Scotch whiskies. Located north of Inverness near the town of Tain, Glenmorangie Distillery produces distinctive malts thanks to a few select processes. Using the tallest stills in Scotland to yield light, pure vapours that create a smoother whisky. Visit the distillery and warehouses to get a full picture of what makes this dram so great.
Glenmorangie Tours and Experiences
The Glenmorangie Distillery Visitor Centre allows you to take a closer look into the distillery’s unique style of whisky-making. The centre offers a choice of whisky tours. The Original Tour tells the story of Glenmorangie’s signature whisky, The Original. While the Innovation Tour delves deeper into the experimental side of the distillery. Both tours can be booked in advance online. There is also a shop, which sells a range of Glenmorangie whiskies and other gifts and mementoes.
History of Glenmoragnie
Farmer William Matheson and his wife Anne founded the Glenmorangie Distillery near Tain in 1843. In 1918, the Macdonald and Muir company purchased the distillery. It remained in the hands of the Macdonald family until 2004, when they sold to French drinks firm, Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton.
Glenmorangie is famous for its tall stills, the apparatus used to distill whisky. They are the tallest ones used in Scotland, with necks as tall as giraffes! The distillery says this creates more space for taste and aroma.
Today, Glenmorangie is a premium brand of whisky, known for its sweet, light and delicate flavour.
