Highland Sports Events

Sports Events

From traditional Highland games to rugby, golf, football and more, the Scots are always keen to watch their favourite sporting stars and chat about the latest results. We’re passionate about sports events and love nothing more than spending an afternoon with friends enjoying everything sport brings.

RUGBY

Even if you visit out of rugby season, you will discover that there are many ways to enjoy the sport in Inverness. The Highland Rugby Club is the area’s leading club and they hold their practices and games in Canal Park. All fans are welcome to watch, just visit their website to learn more about the team.

COUNTRY SPORTS

Scotland is also well-known for its country and field sports including hunting, shooting and fishing. Falconry is one of the oldest field sports in the country. And it’s enjoying a resurgence in popularity with many providers now offering places to view or participate. Over 200 sporting providers offer a wide range of activities in the Highlands. Regardless of the sport, conservation is at the core of all country sports. So you’ll be guaranteed a welcoming day out.

HIGHLAND GAMES

Each summer, one of the oldest sporting events in Scottish history takes place: the Inverness Highland Games. Spectators are transported into the past as they watch traditional events such as the Caber Toss, wheelchair curling and Scottish Backhold Wrestling and Heavy events. The Highland Games are also an excellent way for visitors to enjoy non sporting events such as the colourful Highland Fling or drumming and piping from some of the best performers in Scotland.

INVERNESS LEISURE

If you’d rather take part than watch sport, then you will want to visit the largest sports and leisure facility in the Highlands, Inverness Leisure. Offering visitors award-winning facilities, they have a number of exciting additions including a climbing wall and exercise classes. Inverness Leisure is a terrific place to bring the entire family.
