Start and end your NC500 adventure with us

Explore the North Coast 500 in style

The North Coast 500 driving route is a journey like no other. In a recent study by car brand Dacia, the NC500 was voted the UK’s most epic road trip. And it comes as no surprise to us. This breathtaking route leads the driver along the north coast of Scotland, stretching just over 500 miles. It takes in rocky coastlines, sandy beaches, rugged mountains and picturesque villages. The NC500 route starts and finishes in our home city of Inverness. So, what better place to begin your adventure than with a stay at the Kingsmills Hotel?

Starting the NC500 in Inverness

Inverness is the official start and end point for the NC500. That makes a lot of sense because it’s a very well-connected part of the Highlands. Straight forward to get here by plane, train or car. If you don’t have your own vehicle with you, it’s easy to hire a car from Inverness Airport. We offer free parking at the Kingsmills Hotel, so you can head straight here for a pre-roadtrip overnight stay. We also have EV charging points so you can charge your electric vehicle, ready to go. Here you can enjoy a delicious meal, use of our spa and leisure facilities and a comfortable night’s rest. The next day, enjoy a hearty Scottish breakfast, before setting off on the adventure of a lifetime.

Planning your route

The route takes a recommended week to complete, although you can spend longer as there is so much to see. Starting from Inverness, you can go either clockwise or anti-clockwise, stopping wherever you like along the way. You will pass through Inverness-shire, the Black Isle, Easter Ross, Caithness, Sutherland and Wester Ross, all beautiful coastal regions in the north of Scotland.

Although you don’t have to plan every stop in advance, it’s important to at least pre-book your nightly accommodation. We would suggest booking a night in Inverness at the start and end of your trip, with at least one night in each of the other five regions, as a great way to start.

Explore the route here with this interactive map, where you can search for accommodation, attractions and activities, shops and services, places to eat and drink and more.

We promote sustainable, environmentally friendly travel and encourage you to explore the route responsibly. Find out more about how to have an eco-friendly holiday.

End your adventure on a high, with a final night at the Kingsmills Hotel. We will welcome you back for a relaxing stay. Enjoy a dip in the heated pool and good food and drink, before sinking into bed in your luxurious hotel room. The perfect end to your epic Scottish road trip!
