Exploring Portknockie

Portknockie

Tucked away on the Moray coast is the pretty fishing village of Portknockie, just a 1.5 hour drive from the Kingsmills Hotel in Inverness. Even though the drive might feel a bit far, it’s worth it for all the outdoor activities in this lovely Scottish village. With stunning cliff walks and peaceful beaches, Portknockie is the perfect place to relax away from the city. Let’s take a look at some of the best things to do in Portknockie!

Bow Fiddle Rock and coastal walks

You can’t visit Portknockie without seeing the iconic Bow Fiddle Rock. This natural sea arch stands against the backdrop of the sea of Moray Firth, it is a stunning natural sight. Take a scenic walk along the coast to get a good look at it and snap some photos. You might recognise this area for featuring in the last challenge in the final of BBC’s The Traitors series 2. Where contestants had to row out to a pirate ship by Bow Fiddle Rock. If you love being outside and exploring, you’ll love Portknockie’s cliff paths. Put on your hiking boots and get ready for some amazing views of the North Sea.

Portknockie harbour and beaches

When you visit Portknockie Harbour, it feels like you’ve returned to when fishing was essential for coastal towns. Even though fishing isn’t as big of a deal now, the harbour is still really busy. You can watch local fishermen bringing in their catch of the day, or just take a walk along the waterfront and enjoy the views. If you’re lucky, you might even see dolphins playing in the Moray Firth waters! Alternatively, if you’re looking for a chilled day by the sea, Portknockie’s beaches are the perfect spot. Whether you’re lounging on the sand or going for a swim, these beaches are peaceful and beautiful.
