Take the stress out of the Wedding Planning

At Kingsmills Hotel, we pride ourselves on our Weddings. We love sharing in people’s most special day, and as such our Wedding Coordinator has picked up a few tips over the years. If you are wondering where to start, we have compiled a list of some of the things you’ll want to think about.

Congratulations! You’re Engaged! After the initial celebrations, it can become quite daunting to realise the amount of planning that is about to happen. If you want some of Kingsmills Hotel’s tips, then read on.

Beginning to plan:

Set your budget. This is a difficult task but is good to have an idea of what you’re aspirations and budget allow. Next, we would advise you draw up your guest list, this doesn’t need to be set in stone by any means but will give you an idea of venues who can accommodate your party. Decide on a theme and style of wedding to give a good starting point.

Now for some excitement – time to appoint bridesmaids, best man and ushers if required. Choose from close friends and family, ensuring you will have them by your side through the whole process.

A year – 6 months to go

Venue is booked, now is time to start thinking about a photographer/videographer if you wish. Be sure to do your research to find a photographer who can offer the style and feeling of photos that you are looking for. A good idea is to ask to view their portfolio (this may be on their website) to give you an idea of their work.

Meet your registrar/celebrant/minister. Be sure to get them booked in early to guarantee your date. They will be able to guide you on suitable music and readings and to answer any of your questions about the big day.

A difficult choice for the day, will it be a DJ or band? This can be a daunting task if you haven’t anyone in mind. But don’t be alarmed, at Kingsmills we have some good recommendations of previous entertainers at the hotel and can give you some pointers if needed.

Once you have booked up the exciting honeymoon, if you are going abroad don’t forget to book this in your maiden name and work on changing your passport on your return.

Wedding Dress – some companies can take a minimum of 5 months to order in your dress, so you want to be sure to leave yourself time for this to arrive. On the very important subject, it is more and more common now to invest in Wedding Insurance. For a small fee, you can protect yourself should something happen before the big day.

6 Months to go…

Book your make-up artist and hairdresser if needed, ask for a trial if you want to know how it will look as the day goes on.

Book the honeymoon suite. At Kingsmills Hotel you can even request some rose petals to be scattered on the bed!

3 Months to go…

Wedding and Bridesmaid dress alterations if necessary. Now is also a good time to buy your wedding rings, be sure to try these alongside your engagement ring so you can rest assured they sit comfortably with one another.

Send out the invites! Be sure to have all relevant RSVP details on there. If possible, include information for your guests on overnight accommodation, transport, parking and any dress code you may have. Decide if you want to have a guest list, and if so make sure to registrar and send out the details with the invitations.

The Day Before…

Have the day off, but don’t exert yourself too much. Try to have an early night and relax, after all – you’re getting married tomorrow! Most of all, enjoy yourself. The most precise and organised wedding may not go exactly as planned, but remember this is the beginning of your marriage and nothing matters more. Happy Planning!
