Closer to the Kingsmills Hotel lies the emotive Culloden Battlefield, with a brand new exhibition in 2008 is the site of the final Jacobite demise in 1746 – nearby, visit Clava Cairns burial site a mere 3,500-4,000 years old! Fort George, built together with Fort Augustus Abbey at the south end of Loch Ness and Fort William on the Western seaboard to deter further rebellion, is a fascinating visit.

Cawdor Castle is a “must” visit – begun in the 12th Century and today home to Lady Cawdor and her family, situated in award winning gardens and boasting a 9 hole golf course it is the Castle of Shakespears “MacBeth”. Within a few miles lies Brodie Castle a traditional Scottish fortified house with the country’s largest selection of daffodils in its grounds – quite apart from its interior grandeur and paintings.

Fort George - Built following the Battle of Culloden, it is one of the outstanding artillery fortifications in Europe. A vast site and one of the most outstanding artillery fortifications in Europe. Built in 1747 it has never seen a shot fired in battle.

Brodie Castle - The castle itself was the home of the Brodie family until the late 20th century. In spring, the grounds are carpeted with a unique collection of daffodils. You're free to explore sheltered woodland walks, and stroll by the pond where you can observe the estate's varied wildlife from the specially constructed hides.
