Golf Courses near the Kingsmills Hotel in Inverness
Scotland is the ancient home of Golf. First mentioned in 1457 when it was banned by James II because too many Scots preferred to play golf rather than practise archery!
Golf has become one of Scotland’s national pastimes. We have a range of spectacular courses near our Inverness golf hotel. There are 44 courses listed in the Highlands and Skye area. Many of these are less than a half hour drive from our luxury Inverness hotel.
There are three golf courses in Inverness. The most famous, Inverness Golf Club is overlooked by the Kingsmills Hotel in Inverness. This course is of championship standard and was established in 1883. At 6226 yards this is not the longest course in Inverness, however it has the largest waiting list for new members!
Loch Ness Golf Course
Loch Ness Golf Course is the newest in the area. This is 6700 yards long and also has a driving range facility. Torvean Golf Course on the northern side of the City is a parkland style course which will suit the professional golfer and those who wish to try the sport for the first time.
Royal Dornoch Golf Course
Royal Dornoch, 45 miles north east of Inverness is a well played Championship links course. Formed in 1877 it has been a Royal club for over 100 years. Handicap certificate is essential for this course.
The Nairn Golf Course
The Nairn golf course, another links course, 12 miles east of Inverness. Founded in 1887 Nairn was extended by Archie Simpson, Old Tom Morris and James Braid it is now one of the best courses in the United Kingdom. Remarkably you can see the Moray Firth from every hole and the golden colouring and changing lights of the Black Isle. Even more extraordinary – only too easily you can strike the ball into the sea on every one of the first seven!
